How to multiply in Excel number by number, column by column
In the office package from Microsoft, there is an excellent Excel program. This is a convenient and fairly simple editor for working with tabular data. The program has a large set of functions, such as sorting and searching, mathematical operations of multiplication, division, summation, the search for the average value. In it you can build charts and graphs.
When maintaining accounting or various kinds of documentation, one often has to deal with simple mathematical operations, and they can be automated using the available functions. To figure out how to multiply in Excel, you first need to create an Excel document and enter the necessary data into it.
What and how can you multiply?
You can multiply any numbers and numerical arrays. It is not as difficult as it seems. So, let’s see how to multiply a number by a number in Excel. Enter the number you want to multiply in the cell, for example in A1.The next step is to enter the number you want to multiply. Enter it in A2. Then select the cell to which the result of the multiplication will be displayed. Let it be, for example, C1. Since it is possible to multiply in Excel with the help of certain commands, you must enter an equal sign in the selected cell. After that, you need to click the pointer on A1 to select it and enter the multiplication sign - an asterisk. Next you need to click on the cell you are multiplying, that is, A2, then press the Enter key. As a result, in C1 you will see the result of multiplication.
In this way, you can multiply any number of numbers by simply adding a multiplication sign and selecting additional cells. However, this is not the only solution to the problem. How to multiply number by number in "Excel" in another way?
First select the cell that will contain the result. Next, go to the "Formulas" section, click "Insert Function". In the window that opens, select the category "Mathematical", use the function "PRODUCTION". You will see another window with the fields "Number 1" and "Number 2". If you want to multiply the number from cell A1 by the number from A2, then in the first and second field, enter the names of the cells themselves, respectively. After confirming the choice, you will get the result of the multiplication in the cell that you chose before entering the function.
A simple way to multiply columns
In addition to individual numbers, you can multiply a column by a column in Excel. This can be done in almost the same way.
Enter the numbers you intend to multiply in the cells in column A1. Put the numbers you multiply by the cells in column B1. Next, for the first line, follow the sequence of actions that we reviewed above. Then move the mouse pointer to the bottom right corner of the cell with the result, click the left mouse button and drag the cell down to the end of the column. So you get the third column. In it you will find the results of multiplying all given numbers.
By the way, in a similar way it is possible to produce a division operation. Only instead of an asterisk will be used the sign of the division.
Where can it come in handy?
When you learned how to multiply numbers and columns in Excel, you can easily work with documents related to the calculation of materials or the number of something, such as estimates for construction or estimates for purchases.
