Highlighting the ceiling. How to make a ceiling with lights
Soft and unobtrusive interior lighting creates a harmonious and pleasant atmosphere in the room. The functionality and aesthetic characteristics of light are enhanced if its sources are led lamps. This is a new technology of lighting devices that allows you to form light as close as possible to natural. At the same time diode lamps have a higher operational resource compared to traditional models. As a result, competently made ceiling lighting made of plasterboard will not just please the household and guests with high-quality lighting, but also relieve from the hassle of maintenance of the devices.
Select the backlight source
To provide a ceiling light can be used not only LEDs, but also standard lamps. Of course, traditional chandeliers are difficult to attribute to the interior, which are able to fit into the modern design, but spotlights do an excellent job with decorative lighting.In addition, the illumination of niches in the ceiling is also efficiently performed by high-tech fiber optic models. If desired, you can combine several sources of illumination, especially if the ceiling is multi-level.
The most popular options for providing lighting in the ceiling still applies to Led-lamps. For this purpose, LEDs in the form of ribbons are used. These are compact devices on which diodes are fixed, creating the necessary light background. The main advantage of the LED ceiling lights is its compactness. The small dimensions make it possible to integrate devices into the ceiling niche so that the wiring, power supply and control devices remain invisible. However, the implementation of such a system will require a lot of effort and patience - however, the end result will justify itself.
Choice of installation scheme
The work on the integration of luminaires begins at the stage of installing the framework for the ceiling construction of plasterboard. Before direct installation is determined by the type of scheme for which installation will be carried out.To understand how to make a ceiling with illumination based on LEDs, you should calculate the possibility of implementing two schemes:
The first option is simpler and more convenient to perform, but if the insulation is damaged, the risk of a short circuit will increase. If a fire breaks out, PVC insulated wires can catch fire. In this regard, it is necessary to take into account the material of the ceiling - if you use fireproof plasterboard plates, then it makes sense to stay at this option.
Initially safer ceiling lighting, based on the second connection scheme. Its disadvantages include a labor-intensive installation process and higher financial costs. If we summarize this point, then it is advisable to use the second option for rooms with high humidity and the risk of fires, and the first - for other cases.
LED strip selection
Devices are selected according to several criteria, depending on the characteristics of the ceiling and lighting requirements. First of all, you should decide how long the tape will be. The backlight is usually formed in accordance with the characteristics of the ceiling plinths into which the LED elements are integrated.
To provide decorative lighting, it is better to use Magna S and L tapes, and if you need to get a multicolor backlight, use the Magna RGB option. Similar versions, but in a brighter version, should be chosen in the lines with the same designations, but in which the number 2 is also present - for example, Magna 2RGB provides a multicolor, bright backlight.
There are brighter options, but this is for special cases, because at home the excessive saturation will lead to discomfort. To control the parameters of the LED strip, you can add a system and a special controller. For example, the multicolor ceiling lighting can be controlled by an RGB controller. Such devices are embedded in the ceiling niche with power supplies.
Preparing to install
When the installation plan is planned and the main equipment is purchased, you can proceed to the final stage of preparation. Again, it is worth noting that the installation of LEDs should not be viewed as a separate event, but as an operation, combined with mounting the ceiling, that is, the gypsum board panels and the frame for them. Therefore, the list of materials required for installation will include materials for both types of work:
- devices for lighting;
- household wires with high quality PVC insulation;
- knife for working with insulation;
- insulating tape;
- electrical pliers and screwdrivers;
- terminal blocks and distribution boxes;
- plastic corrugations, boxes and switches;
- sampler for the phase.
When the entire list of materials will be purchased, you can proceed to the markup to install the profiles of the future ceiling. In this part of the work it is necessary to designate the position of the guides and supporting elements on which the two-level ceiling with illumination will be fixed, as well as the attachment areas of the suspensions. It is also necessary to designate the place of the lighting cornice.
Installation of the ceiling frame
In a two-tier system, the ledge for the LED strip is placed between the tiers of the structure. With this calculation you can begin the installation of the frame. First, the ceiling is overlapped (about 10 cm), after which the installation of the first level of the metal profiles construction is carried out. Then you can proceed to the installation of the next level and carry it out so that there remains an optimal space from the surface of the ceiling to the gypsum boards. This is important because the LED ceiling lighting should ensure the passage of light with the specified parameters and without unnecessary obstacles.
Next, install a plate of plasterboard. Here you should leave the grooves for fixing the wiring and related devices with which the LEDs will be connected. On the outer side of the cornice with the help of the starting metal profile, a special board is fixed, which will act as a barrier on the path of direct light before entering the room.
The LED strip has an adhesive coating on the back. After removing the protective film, you can start gluing. It is important to consider that the material should be glued only to the cleaned surface. If the segment turned out to be excessively long, it should be shortened - this is done in special places of the tape. Conversely, if the connection of contacts is required, this can be accomplished through connectors or by ordinary soldering. In order for the ceiling lights to consistently perform their functions, in the future it will need to be connected to the power supply. To do this, at the end of the LED strip must be soldered in the factory wiring. If not, then you can use the same connectors with wires.
Power supply installation
Those who use a controlled or multi-color LED backlight, it must be borne in mind that between the tape and the power supply must be room for the controller. To connect it at the output of the unit, connectors are provided corresponding to similar places at the input of the controller. According to them, taking into account the polarity, and the connection of wires. The power supply unit is connected to the mains using standard terminals.
The main advantage that multilevel ceilings with backlights have is the ability to hide lighting devices in the ceiling niche. The power supply unit, together with the controller, hides in the formed ceiling shelf or niche, along which a special baseboard with a ribbon must pass. Other communications can also be held here. For example, in addition to lighting, during the installation of the ceiling, you should think about the possible laying of cables for telecommunication networks, ventilation systems or other equipment.
